About

Project objectives

This dashboard for the Global Strategy Towards the Elimination of Cervical Cancer as a Public Health Problem presents cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) burden and program information relevant for the global cervical cancer elimination strategy. In the country profiles on this website, a set of indicators is shown for each country to visualize the publicly available data and to inform stakeholders about the burden and coverage of key interventions. This project has been developed by the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals, World Health Organization and the University of Pittsburgh. The underlying data for the dashboard has been carefully reviewed and integrated by project staff. Details about project methods, data definitions, and sources are shown on the methods page.

Methods

Data integration and quality control

Data for key indicators about cervical cancer and HPV was compiled and standardized by WHO. Data were collected from public sources and from studies conducted by WHO partners, such as the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, HPV Information Centre, Institut Català d'Oncologia (ICO), and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). All data definitions and sources are listed in the methods section of this website. Project Tycho staff at the University of Pittsburgh designed the dashboard together with WHO, quality checked the data, wrote the data definitions, and developed the website interface.
