Description

This visualization of Project Tycho data was built by the students of Code 7370, a software engineer training program in San Quentin State Prison. Mentored by Dr. Micaela Martinez-Bakker at Princeton University, the students used the popular data visualization tools from D3.js to create this animated map of Project Tycho datasets for measles, polio, chickenpox, and influenza in US states. Nearing the end of lengthy sentences, the students of Code 7370 are working to prepare themselves for successful reentry into society. This data visualization project demonstrates the acquired skill of the students and their readiness to work as software engineers in the Bay Area's tech sector and helps users better understand disease epidemics in the United States.
