Data Versions

October 3, 2014 |Update of level 2 and 3 to version 1.1.0

This update includes new notifiable disease reports published by the US Centers for Disease Control between August 23, 2013 and August 8, 2014. During this period, reports for Babesiosis and Invasive Pneumococcal Disease have been added to the list of notifiable diseases. The Project Tycho® team has continued data processing and additional counts for measles, polio, and hepatitis A and B have now been made available. In addition, quality control procedures and Project Tycho® users have detected various errors that have been corrected.

Diseases added

For these diseases, counts for various subcategories have been merged. For measles cases reported after 1982, indigenous cases and imported cases have been aggregated into the total number of measles cases where possible or indigenous cases were assumed to represent the total. For polio cases, paralytic and non-paralytic cases have been aggregated into the total number of polio cases where possible or paralytic cases were assumed to represent the total. This process for measles and polio counts has been described in detail in the NEJM publication Supplemental Online Material. Hepatitis A counts include reported counts for (acute) infectious hepatitis, and (acute) viral hepatitis A. Hepatitis B counts include reported counts for (acute) serum hepatitis, and (acute) serum hepatitis B.

Errors corrected

A total of 2,420,251 records have been corrected in the Project Tycho® database for this update. Most errors occurred during data entry and were detected during an extensive quality control process over the past year. Only errors for which a true value could be found were updated. Unlikely counts that occurred in the source files (e.g. MMWR issues) were removed but not corrected due to the absence of true values. User reports are essential to further improve the quality of Project Tycho® data and we strongly encourage everyone to report errors through the contact form. Users that report errors will receive a Project Tycho® mug.

Previous versions

Although we strongly encourage the use of updated Project Tycho® data, the previous version (1.0.0) of level 2 data can be downloaded in a flat file format (tab-delimited) via the link below. Users will be able to download any previously requested datasets from the previous version (1.0.0) level 3 data through their download history in their account information. These datasets will remain available for 6 months after the release of the new data version.

November 28, 2013 |Release of version 1.0.0 of level 1, 2, and 3

Project Tycho® data for all three levels was released for the first time in conjunction with the publication of a paper in the NEJM describing the dataset and the impact of vaccination programs in the US. These data included weekly notifiable disease reports through August 16, 2013. For more information about the content of these data, see the about section on this website.
